The Mad Hatter’s Party…

My niece Marilyn wanted to throw a Mad Hatter’s Party for her Ryan,
So a request for the Whimsical Topsy Turvy Cake was no surprise!
3 days from baking to chilling to carving and then to wrapping and decorating it!  The cake kind of tilted more than I wanted because the humidity and the rain was a killjoy for sugarpaste. However, it served its purpose with its unbalanced looked and actually turned out quite well. It was chocolate underneath and the pairing with sweet yummy fondant was very yummy if I can say from the feedback!

This is definitely one of my most fun and challenging cake, not so much because of the decoration but learning how to carve and assemble a topsy turvy cake!!! I am sure Alice would have been in awe!

A Bunnilicious Easter
Each year Gabi will eagerly ask me to bake cookies for her friends at Easter. This year was no exception.
Bunny-cut cookies covered in baby pink fondant since her classmates were girls. Sixty-two lemony flavoured sugar cookies in all including one for the form teacher.

Girls and dolls, You can never go wrong…
When Gab was only 3years, I started to teach. She always accompanied me to work. She would run around the store and I noticed she would always slow down when she passed the “Wonder Mould “ aka Barbie doll pan.
She never mentioned to me, I guess because I just realised Gabi never really said she wanted this or that. She simply was glad with anything we chose; good or bad…it may be bad or good.i don’t know. However, this little girl accidentally menthioned to my friend that she hoped her bday cake was a Barbie cake just like the one on the box of the pan at the store…
So one morning, about 130 am on December 31st … this momma cleaned her doll, and did this…..
then she hid it very carefully from eager eyes… When lil gabi woke up she couldn’t find her Barbie…She was frantic and I told her I’ll just get her a new one…upset as she was she said, “it’s alright, maybe we’ll find it later”.You can imagine her reaction when it was time to cut the cake

My cure for imsomnia

With a young child, “my time” is basically never gonna happen. However, on days when I really have to bake, I do it either when she’s in school or fast asleep. So much so that my neighbour whose bedroom window faces my kitchen once quipped “Mrs Ho, every night my husband and I get very hungry, the aroma of your cakes in the oven is really tempting”. Therefore, I took their cue and each time I baked in the night, my neighbours could expect a nice slice of the cakes I make for breakfast.

On one night though, I really couldn’t sleep although I was running around sending my daughter the whole day. I had a craving, a craving for something “atas”…MACARONS! I baked these babies at 2 in the morning!

You must meet Betty..
Living in Singapore cars are really high maintenance! If ever I owned one, it must be a cute cuddly one. Either a mini cooper or a beetle, all the rest seem so cliché!
Betty’s carved out of a real cake. She is just 2 ½’ by 4 ½” wide… I must say I have fallen in love with her. Cars are usually a guy’s cake, but with Betty she is simply oozing “Girl Power”!!!!

For the John Denver
In my family
My family loves jamming together and bringing the house down. Country music, oldies and evergreens are the favourites.
My cousin Leonard is possibly country music’s number one fan outside of  the states. He fronts the band “Country Riders”…
I made this for him, the John Denvcr in the family…

Meet Sheila....baa baa black sheep have you any wool

This is Sheila. I had to create her for my sugarpaste moulding class. Would really have loved to show hyou more, but due to ownership right….
I’d love though if someone were to ask me to produce her again.  She really got me singing “old Macdonald” n "baa baa black sheep"...all over again…
